Tours are scheduled Tuesday – Friday between 10 AM – 4 PM.
Limit of 32 students for guided tours and 15 students for self-guided tours.

FAQs for K-12 Visits
How many chaperones are needed?
We ask that groups plan for 1 chaperone per 10 students. We may encourage additional chaperones depending on age and group size.
What will my students see and discuss?
Tours will typically cover all of the Smart’s current exhibitions, with discussions that are adapted to be grade-appropriate. If you hope to focus on a certain exhibition, topic, or theme, our team of museum educators will tailor your visit with your learning goals in mind.
Can my students make art at the Smart?
The Smart’s team of museum educators designs both educational handouts and art making projects for K–12 groups that highlight themes from the current exhibitions.
Let us know if you’d like to add an activity to your visit, and we will do our best to accommodate based on availability. In addition, we are happy to incorporate activities into the tour experience, such as sketching or writing, and can provide clipboards and pencils.
Does the Smart provide transportation?
While the Smart does not provide transportation, schools may request bus transportation support when completing their form submission. The Smart offers financial support based on need and funding availability.
What can my students bring with them?
We provide rolling storage carts for student belongings, though we encourage groups to travel lightly. While in the galleries, we ask that only pencil is used & food/drink are left in the lobby.
Does the museum have a lunchroom or gathering space?
No, the museum does not have a dedicated space for lunch. If your group plans to eat lunch while visiting the museum, please let us know so we can suggest nearby spots to gather — such as our outdoor courtyard.
Can we visit other places on campus?
Yes! We encourage you to spend the day exploring other exciting institutions on campus. Let us know if this interests you, and we are happy to connect you with some of our partners.
