Student Advisory Committee

Creative and social programs

The Student Advisory Committee is an exclusive group of students that act as the voice of the student body at the Smart Museum.

The Smart works together with the Student Advisory Committee to produce and promote UChicago-oriented programs and events that make social, intellectual, and creative connections across campus. The Committee also functions as a professional development organization for students interested in careers in the museum field. Through the Committee, students are also actively building the Art to Live With collection by visiting artists and galleries in Chicago and proposing acquisitions of specially designated works that are loaned out to UChicago students each year.

Applications to join the committee are made available each fall.

Student programs at the Smart are supported by the UChicago Arts Pass. Art to Live With is supported by Greg Wendt, AB ’83, who once borrowed an Art to Live With print by Sven Lukin, and Joseph R. Shapiro, the program’s original benefactor.

QUARTERLY PROGRAMS

Party at the Smart

The Student Advisory Committee hosts three student-only, after-hours parties at the Smart each year. The themed parties showcase free food, creative beverages, music, and art, and take place at the beginning of each quarter. The parties often feature student performance groups.

Study at the Smart

Once a quarter during reading period, the Smart's galleries are transformed into a late-night study hall open to UChicago students.

Each study night is presented in collaboration with UChicago ArtsPass and the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness and Uncommon Nights.
