Figure Drawing

Seen from behind, a person sketches during a figure drawing session.

Everyone and every-body is welcome to this special figure drawing session presented by the Smart Museum of Art and the UChicago student organization Outside the Lines.

Draw along with figure models Sky Cubacub of Rebirth Garments and Kevin Allen, artists for whom modeling is an integral part of their art practice. Inspired by work on view by Samson Young and Meleko Mokgosi, the models will bring in poses and props based on the themes and people portrayed in the exhibitions.

The drawing session will feature a clothed model in the lobby and unclothed model within the special exhibitions.

FREE, all materials provided. Participants of all skill levels, ages, and gender identities are welcome.

Bios

Sky Cubacub is a non-binary Filipinx human from Chicago, IL. Rebirth Garments is their line of wearables for the full spectrum of gender, size, and ability. They maintain the notion of Radical Visibility, a movement based on claiming our bodies and, through the use of bright colors, exuberant fabrics, and innovative designs, they refuse to assimilate and are spearheading a Queer and Disabled dress reform movement. They are the editor of the Radical Visibility Zine, a magazine for Queer and Disabled teens based off of their manifesto.

Kevin Allen is a lifelong learner, traveler, and lover of art. He has been figure modeling for art schools, Outside the Lines, and the Smart Museum for over a decade, often taking inspiration for his poses from the artworks in the museum. Kevin’s annual European travels recently took him to Russia, Estonia, Finland, and Germany; in St. Petersburg he had the great pleasure to spend three days enjoying the impressive art collection in the Hermitage and Winter Palace. Kevin will surely bring his knowledge of great artworks back to us through his modeling at the Smart!
