SMART SCHOLARS RESEARCH TALK

The Feitler Center for Academic Inquiry at the Smart Museum of Art presents a research talk by Smart Scholar and UChicago College student, Simone Gulliver.

Please join us in the Smart Museum’s Study Room for a discussion of Robin Coste Lewis’s award-winning poetry collection, Voyage of the Sable Venus. In this 2015 collection, Lewis composes her art gallery from the titles of hundreds of art objects depicting unnamed Black women. Participants will explore the relationship between the ekphrastic poem and Robert Cottingham’s lithograph Black Girl from the Smart’s collection.

FREE, but space is limited. Please register in advance. Registered participants will receive instructions for accessing Lewis’s collection digitally.
