Family Day: From Cool Sculptures to Rhythm & Blues

Making sculptures at the Smart Museum

Featuring dancer/choreographer Irene Hsiao

The Logan Center for the Arts and the Smart Museum are teaming up to celebrate sculptor Virginio Ferrari and the second annual Logan Center Bluesfest!

Ferrari has graced the City of Chicago and especially Hyde Park with his sweeping bronze sculptures, playful concrete spheres, and stainless steel “stages” for many years. At the Smart Museum, delve into Ferrari’s process and design, draw, and make models for your own visionary sculptures in the city. Then, use your designs to build your sculptures out of cardboard, plaster, wood, and metal.

The afternoon also features docent-led walking tours of Ferrari’s sculptures on the UChicago campus and a special performance by dancer and choreographer Irene Hsiao that responds to Ferrari’s bronze sculpture Dialogo (1971).

Plus, join in free workshops happening across campus as part of the second annual Logan Center Bluesfest.

FREE. All materials provided. Activities best for kids ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult.

Presented in collaboration with Art Design Chicago and UChicago Arts as part of Dialogo: Virginio Ferrari and Chicago

Family programs at the Smart Museum are supported by the Harper Court Arts Council.
