1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Smart Museum of Art, The University of Chicago, 5550 S. Greenwood Avenue
Join guest artist and roller-skating champ Alisha Webster for a summertime rollerskating and art-making festival!
Skate along the paths outside the Museum and enjoy a skate-dancing demonstration from special guest Alisha Webster. Go on a scavenger hunt in the galleries and then make a collaborative painting by rolling paint on a huge piece of paper in our outdoor sculpture garden. Plus, create fun little roller skating keychains and charms.
This afternoon summertime festival is inspired by abstract paintings by Sam Gilliam and Lauren Quin on display in Calling on the Past.
FREE, drop-in. Bring your own rollerskates or borrow a set of skates, helmets, kneepads, and wrist-guards from us. Art-making supplies and other materials are provided. Family programs are best for kids 4–12, but all ages are welcomed! Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Family Days at the Smart Museum are designed to celebrate the creative potential in all of us. With new projects every month, Family Days offer opportunities for kids and their caregivers to create together and connect with one another. Each program is unique, fun, and free, emphasizing invention, improvisation, and hands-on creativity.
