Collections

The collection of the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago dynamically supports academic and artistic study, inspires new ideas and creative interpretation, and provides a space for reflection and conversation for the Museum’s many audiences. Comprising over 17,000 objects, the Smart’s holdings represent artworks from across the globe, spanning antiquity to the present day.

While the Museum’s basement level is under renovation during the 2024-2025 academic year, there will be reduced access to the Smart’s permanent collection. In the interim, the “Construction Collection” indicates objects available for research and class requests.
