Family Day: Face, Vase, and Lace

Suzanne Valadon, Portrait of Lily Walton, 1923, Oil on canvas. Smart Museum of Art, The University of Chicago, Bequest of Joseph Halle Schaffner in memory of his beloved mother, Sara H. Schaffner, 1973.119

Drop by and join in the Smart's free family activities every month! Each Family Day features hands-on art activities designed to inspire children to think about and respond creatively to art and the world around them.

This Saturday, paint portraits and make collages with still-life elements like vases and lace. Plus, make a large collaborative painting. The activities are inspired by a painting in the Museum’s collection by post-Impressionist Susanne Valadon and research done by Ebonie Pollock.

Free. All materials provided. Activities best for kids ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult.
