Organized by Herbert George, Associate Professor, committee on Art and Design at the University of Chicago, this exhibition examined the convention of the portrait head from antiquity to the present through over forty sculptures from the Smart’s permanent collection.
The Sculpted Head as Image was supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which encourages the use of the Museum’s collection in designing and teaching classes.
