Multimedia artist Lu Yang joins Wu Hung, Harrie A. Vanderstappen Distinguished Service Professor of Art History at the University of Chicago, for a public conversation celebrating Lu Yang’s participation in Beyond Boundaries: Three Decades of Contemporary Chinese Art at the Smart Museum of Art. Working across video, gaming technologies, animation, and installation, Lu Yang engages questions of gender, neuroscience, religion, and the body through the visual languages of digital culture and Japanese manga. The conversation will explore how artistic practice and art history intersect in shaping new narratives of Chinese art in a global context. This program is presented in conjunction with Beyond Boundaries: Three Decades of Contemporary Chinese Art at the Smart, and in collaboration with the Center for the Art of East Asia.
