What makes a self-portrait a self-portrait, and how have artists deployed photography in the making of self-portraits?

Artworks in Smart to the Core: Embodying the Self present notions of self in an expanded view, in ways complex, compelling, and confounding. Panelists for this discussion turn to artworks in this exhibition that use photography and/or photographic elements as starting points for a discussion of photography’s roles in representing self.

Panelists include Antawan Byrd (Assistant Curator at The Art Institute of Chicago), Greg Foster-Rice (Associate Professor at Columbia College), and Ellen Tani (Assistant Curator at ICA Boston). Moderated by Leslie M. Wilson (Curatorial Fellow for Diversity in the Arts at the Smart Museum).

Free, open to all.
