Family Day: True Blue

Family painting together at the Smart Museum. Photo by Erik L. Peterson.

Drop by and join in the Smart’s free family activities every month! Each Family Day features hands-on art activities designed to inspire children to think about and respond creatively to art and the world around them.

This Saturday, celebrate everything blue with activities inspired by the master of the color blue, Yves Klein! Play in a blue sandbox and draw on blue paper with blue pens, pencils, paints, and inks. Plus, enjoy live bluegrass music by banjo player Matt Brown.

FREE, all materials provided. Activities best for kids ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult.

Family programs are supported by the Harper Court Arts Council.

About Matt Brown

Matt Brown teaches fiddle, banjo, and guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music. His fiddling is featured along with guitarist Greg Reish on the 2015 release “Speed of the Plow,” which was engineered and co-produced by GRAMMY winner Dave Sinko (Punch Brothers, Béla Fleck, Hot Rize). Matt and Greg have toured the country performing the album's collection of old-time duets. Matt has also toured as a soloist, with percussive dance ensembles Rhythm in Shoes and Footworks, and has made guest appearances with Tim O'Brien, The John Hartford Stringband, Uncle Earl, Special Consensus, and Della Mae. He has performed twice with Mike Snider on the Grand Ole Opry. Matt plays fiddle with Chicago bluegrass band Big Sadie.
