Share your lesson plan ideas

The Smart Museum of Art is building a library of downloadable lesson plans, which use works from our collection to integrate art into everyday teaching and connect art to a broad range of topics. Have an idea for a lesson plan? Send it our way and we may publish and share it with other teachers.

Resources to help you plan

  • Lesson should be written using the plan template (DOC) from The Chicago Guide for Teaching and Learning in the Arts.
  • Download our Teacher Resource Guide (PDF) to learn how you can use the Smart as a resource for classroom learning.
  • Lesson plan or unit should be based on an object from the Smart Museum’s permanent collection.
  • Make sure your lesson incorporates the visual arts with one or more disciplines in a meaningful way and that it is repeatable in other CPS classrooms.
  • As an example, browse our archive of lesson plans.
