Programs for Adults

Connecting you with art and ideas

Week in and week out, the Smart Museum offers intellectually adventurous yet engaging programs for adults—from art lovers to casual visitors.

Presented for free, our public programs include lectures, artist talks, writing and art-making workshops, tours, concerts, and more. These programs—often created in partnership with University of Chicago faculty or other cultural institutions from across the city—introduce multiple perspectives and examine alternative themes related to the art on view in our galleries.

At the Threshold

HornswagglerOn the first Thursday of every month, enjoy drinks with friends as Hornswaggler Arts rolls in to the Smart's lobby with an experimental pop-up bar.

Fueled by a small menu of handcrafted Hornswaggler concoctions, creative interventions, and music from special guest DJs, this social hour provides common ground for lively conversation surrounding art, culture, and ideas.

Free admission, cash bar. Must be 21+ to drink.
