The Master of Fine Arts exhibition gives us an opportunity to see together the work of a very interesting group of emerging artists. Several of them share an affinity for the figures, but with results as diverse as Nina Levy’s spectral narrative, Christine Basick’s tormented allusions to the flesh, and James McManus’s unsettling designs for fashion accessories. There is, of course, much more: from the careful drawings of Heather Accurso and Christine Boos to the object transformations of Jennifer Krauss, and again to the rich paintings of Carl Gilmore, Kristine Veenstra, and Mark Westervelt, these works are well-considered and rewarding experiences of observation and reflection. Taken together, they represent a range of vision and point of view that testifies to the strengths of Midway Studios and its teaching program.
