The Kassebaum collection, which consists of over 400 ceramics, has been assembled over the past several decades by John Phillip Kassebaum, Honorary Curator of Ceramics at the Helen Foreman Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, and is regarded as the foremost private collection of ceramics in the country. The exhibition consisted of 60 examples of tin-oxide earthenware dating from the 10th through the 18th centuries from the Near East, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and England. The exhibit examines the development of techniques as well as the emergence of various centers for production and stylistic innovation. Linda Seidel, Associate Professor of Art; Edward A. Maser, Professor of Art and Germanic Languages and Literatures; John Carswell, Curator of the Oriental Institute Museum; and Richard A. Born, Curator of the Gallery delivered lectures in conjunction with the exhibition.
