American artist Thomas Hart Benton’s career spanned nearly 7 decades, each of which is represented in the Smart exhibition, Benton’s Bentons. The show includes paintings and drawings of subjects ranging from portraits, to landscapes, to scenes of American life, to abstract works.
Curator: The Spencer Art Museum at the University of Kansas organized the exhibition, where it was first publicly displayed.
The exhibition was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Crosby Kemper Foundation of Kansas City. The lectures at the Smart were funded by the Illinois Arts Council and by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
