An Alle Künstler! War-Revolution-Weimar: German Expressionist Prints, Drawings, Posters and Periodicals from the Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation

20 May–1 July 1984

The Smart Museum of Art and the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago co-sponsored a series of events based on German Expressionism. The exhibition at the Smart, An Alle Kunstler! War-Revolution-Weimar: German Expressionist Prints, Drawings, Poster and Periodicals from the Robert Gore Rifkind Foundation, presents a survey of work by well-known and obscure artists who focused their energies on the political issues facing Germany from 1918–1925. Some of the artists included in the exhibition are Max Pechstein, Otto Dix, Käthe Kollwitz, George Grosz, and Max Beckmann. The exhibition at the Renaissance Society, German Neo-Expressionist Graphics, explores recent trends in German graphic arts, focusing on the political and stylistic overtones that link them to the earlier works displayed at the Smart.

Curator: Dr. Ida Katherine Rigby, Associate Professor of the History of Art, San Diego State University.
