Public Opening Reception: There was a whole collection made

Join us for the first public look at an inspiring collection of photography.

Spanning the very earliest days of the medium to the near-present day, the special exhibition There was a whole collection made mines the Estate of Lester and Betty Guttman’s 2014 gift of 830 photographic works by 414 artists to the Smart Museum and introduces this vital new resource to scholars and the public.

The evening features classical music, live poetry readings, mushroom-based cuisine, and gallery talks around select photographs on view.

Free and open to all.
