Drawing in the Dark

September 6, 2017
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Landscape, Memory, and the Artist's MArk

with guest artist Tim Nickodemus

Join the Smart Museum and the Roger Brown Study Collection of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for a two-part drawing workshop that explores memory, landscape, mapping, and interconnections between works by Tim Nickodemus and Joseph Yoakum.

PART I

Wednesday, September 6, 6–8 pm

Smart Museum of Art
The University of Chicago
5550 S. Greenwood Avenue

Part I includes a excursion through landscape paintings and internal landscapes of our memories at the Smart Museum of Art, and drawing workshop taught by Nickodemus.

PART II

Wednesday, September 20, 6–8 pm

Roger Brown Study Collection
1926 N. Halsted Street

For Part II, we will reconvene at the Roger Brown Study Collection for a continuation of the projects we began at the Smart and a tour of Roger Brown’s Artists’ Museum collection, including the exhibition Second Hand Land Scapes, which features drawings by Nickodemus inspired by Brown’s collection of Yoakum drawings. Here, we will complete the drawing workshop, with a twist, and get to travel to sites that we’ve been to, and ones we can only imagine.

FREE, but space is limited. Participants are asked to attend both sessions. Please register in advance.
